Friday Things #592

1. Thank you all for the outpouring of love and support last week as we got encouraging news about Dominic, but also were brokenhearted over the loss of our Duke ❤️
2. Dominic is crossing off a round of immunotherapy this week. All things considered, he is doing really well and will be glad to finish up later this evening and get back home.
3. We are less than two weeks away from the start of the school year, and ugh, the summer really felt like it just slipped through our fingers; it went so, so fast. Joseph is starting middle school this year; I can’t even believe it.
4. Let’s talk books! Last we talked, I had just started The Burning Side, which was a quick read and really, really good. Definitely recommend.
I recently finished All the Colors of the Dark, which was fabulously written, albeit a bit tragic in nature (reminded me of Demon Copperhead). I did love it and am glad I finally got around to reading it.
Currently Reading: The Shampoo Effect – I’m about halfway through and liking it; a lighter read, which was a good follow-up to the heavier one I had just finished.
5. Really good read >> The Life You’re Rushing Through Is the Only One You Get
6. It’s been so long since I’ve made a loaf of my Italian bread; I think I need to make it happen next week!
7. This is so interesting, I had no idea so few companies actually own all of these brands >> Your Appliances Got Worse on Purpose
8. Are you looking forward to any fall sports? We’ve really enjoyed college football the last few years, and we are of course excited for hockey season!
9. Have you watched anything good lately? We’ve been introducing the kids to some of our favorite older movies… they loved The Karate Kid; we watched the original and Karate Kid 2. Last weekend, we watched the new Masters of the Universe movie, which we all loved (caveat: it was rated PG-13 and my husband found an app called VidAngel that you can stream shows and movies through that is essentially like watching it when movie reruns would show on network TV when we were younger – it filters out language and anything extra violent – you can adjust the settings to your liking!).
10. TGIF! This sweet girl has been getting a lot of extra attention and tagging along for lots of rides 🩷

So happy there is good news for Dominic. I’ve been keeping him in my prayers. I’m so sorry for the loss of Duke. I’ve been following for a long time and remember Einstein. Goldens are such sweet dogs. We had one named Maddie. She and my cat Harley were best buds. She lived to the age of 14 and just lost my cat a few months ago. He was 14 as well. I understand the sadness it brings. I will keep Dominic in my prayers as well as all your family. 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
Wonderful News that Dominick is doing so well after going through so much. May He continue His wellness journey and become strong and healthy.
I have been on your blog since before you had Children and always enjoyed it.
We are looking for a new dishwasher, electric stove and above stove microwave. Our old dishwasher is Kitchen Aid which used to be good when it was made by Hobart.
Any suggestions?
Best and great health to your whole Family..
Hi Fran, We have a Bosch dishwasher that we LOVE… can fit a ton in it and it’s super quiet. We’ve had it for 4 years now and no complaints. I can’t speak to electric stoves, as we have a gas and it’s the same one that was here when we moved in 11 years ago. As for a microwave, we have an LG (also 4 years old) and it works great but the button to open and close the door has gotten a little wonky. I hope that all helps!
Awww so good to see sweet Judith’s face! Looks like she is smiling at you. I felt so sad for her after her good buddy Duke passed away, so I’m really glad to see she’s getting some special family time these days. That must be such a comfort!
Thank you for keeping us up on your family so we all can help keep you lifted up. Thankful Dominic had good news! And so sorry about your dog because they are a part of your family too. Life is just messy and we all share in that! I want to check out the Italian bread! Always ❤️
What a wonderful post filled with good news about Dominic and great articles especially the one on appliances. Thank you!!!
Prayers for a great school year for each of your children and good health for your entire family! Love each of your photos!
Welcome back.
I was so sad hear of your dog passing 🥲 our dog is exactly the same age and is also a golden retriever. She’s doing ok for her age. And happy for the good news about Dominic! Prayers answered.
That’s such a great picture of your kids watching the horizon.
Thank you for the article on why appliances have gotten worse. This is very helpful.
For older movies your kids might like, ours liked The Sandlot and Goonies. My daughter liked the Princess Diaries.
Oh , so much good stuff in this post! Happy to hear Dominic is responding well to these treatments. I hope the last few weeks of summer a filled with fun and relaxing days for all before school schedules begin. Wishing the children a great year .
Enjoyed the great reminder in Rushing through Life- all the new technology was supposed to make life easier. Instead it has just kept us all so connected constantly, it has become hard to disconnect and relax like years ago. And that can be difficult to change now. The article about appliances was very enlightening- thank you. I have read a few books this summer I truly enjoyed- just light reads, but summer themes:
Jo Thomas- A Place in the Sun, Hannah McKinnon- The Sandy Page Bookshop and The Wash-Ashores.
Thanks for the bread recipe too- squirreling that away for fall Sunday pasta dinners. 😊 Happy Weekend to All
I am so happy that the treatment is helping Dominic. The summer has gone by so quickly this year. Enjoy the rest of the summer. Continuing to keep Dominic and your family in my prayers.🙏
So glad to hear Dominic is responding so well on this round of treatments! And I am sorry to hear about Duke. I am in the process of trying to adopt a golden retriever rescue dog.
Just wanted to let you know I never could make a lemon meringue pie until I made your recipe Wow it was a huge success!
God bless you and your family
