The Weekend Dish: 4/22/2017

Hello and happy Saturday to you!
I hope you had a fantastic week and that your weekend is off to a wonderful start. Nothing big planned for our weekend; I have a little baking Iโd like to do, and am planning to pick back up with my purging in the kitchen. Iโve been going a drawer or cabinet at a time when I have a few extra minutes (like when Iโm waiting for something in the oven!). It feels great to declutter and only keep things that I actually use, whew!
As always, you'll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week, the most shared recipes, my Sunday dinner menu, and recipes I've bookmarked from other blogs. Enjoy!

That strawberry pie is calling my name! Iโm tempted to go out and buy the ingredients right now. Itโll have to wait for the weekend, though. I just donโt have the time at the moment. Itโll make a great dessert for dinner with my parents though. Your recipes are always wonderful :)
Thanks so much for the shout out to my cheesecake <3 Happy Monday!
Googled cuteness and there was this adorable younglings!!!!
I donโt think youโve posted anything yet about this, but Iโd be interested in what you end up actually purging from your kitchen. We have just started to do the same thing and sometimes itโs hard to decide to keep something or not. For example, one of the things I got rid of was an โescargot serving plateโ, yep thatโs right. Love them at restaurants, thought why not try them at home. Had for many years and never used it and so got rid of it. ย Then saw them made today on a cooking show today and thought, shoot, why did I get rid of that? ย ;)
Hi Dawn, I think what one keeps in there kitchen is super personal to how they cook โ and I say that having helped in a number of kitchens of family and friends! One of the things that has helped me as I have sorted through my house is to keep a โgive away bagโ in an out of the way spot (mineโs in the garage). Since I purge a little at a time it usually takes a few months to get a full bag. Which means that by the time I get the bag out of my house I usually have had a chance to โneedโ whatever is in there again, and I figure if I havenโt taken it out then I donโt actually need it!
Hi Dawn, Itโs really personal preference. Iโve only kept what I use and love. I read the book โThe Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Upโ last year and it really helped frame how I view the โthingsโ I have and whether I really want to keep them or not. For things in the kitchen, for example, have umpteen sets of measuring cups and spoons but I use the same two sets all the time. The others are pretty but not really accurate and I have to hand wash them, so I never use them. Keeping them in the drawer is silly! I do believe in the idea that, if I havenโt used this in an entire year (spanning all seasons and holidays), then itโs not likely I need it. I hope that helps a little bit!
Thanks for a great site!!
My daughter was just diagnosed with being gluten intolerant. This is all new to us and I need recipes for her.. Do you have bread, desserts, and main meal ones that you c an send me? Gluten free things are expensive to purchase and I need help in meal planning.
Thanks for anything you can send me. I know tons of people struggle with this problem and I thought you may be able to help!!! Thanks again. Blessings!!
Hi Carol, Iโm sorry to hear about your daughterโs diagnosis! Unfortunately, I really have no experience with gluten-free baking. I know there are now tons of baking mixes and flours that you can easily substitute with (King Arthur Flour and Bobโs Red Mill both make them) and I know Annieโs brand has a lot of gluten-free products, as well. I would probably search out some dedicated gluten-free food blogs, as they would be the experts! Iโm sorry I couldnโt be of more help!
Iowa Girl Eats is a great site for gluten-free recipes!
