Warm and Cheesy Bacon Dip
![]()
This warm and cheesy bacon dip is creamy and packed with lots of bacon. It’s a hot version of the popular Loaded Baked Potato Dip!

As soon as the air starts to feel a little bit more crisp and televisions are tuned into football all day Saturday and Sunday, I start to get the itch to whip up dips for snacking. When it comes to dip recipes, there is absolutely no way you can go wrong with cheese and bacon. The more of both, the better, as far as I’m concerned.
This warm and cheesy bacon dip combines cream cheese, sour cream, cheddar cheese, bacon and scallions, and is baked until melted, bubbly and perfect for dipping.

A few years ago, I shared a recipe for loaded baked potato dip… if you haven’t tried it yet (and you should!), it combines all of the flavors that you would typically use to top a baked potato – sour cream, bacon, cheese and scallions (or chives) – and then you dig in with potato chips. This warm and cheesy bacon dip basically takes all of those same flavors and adds cream cheese for extra creaminess, and bakes it up into a melted, bubbling hot dip.
You can serve this with potato chips, tortilla chips, pita chips, baguette slices, your favorite crackers… even vegetables if you want to try to counteract all of that cheesy bacon goodness.

Has anyone done this in the crock pot? If so how long did you cook it for?
Hi Marissa, I haven’t done it, but I would guess somewhere around 2 to 4 hours on low. Enjoy!
So I have made this many times now and it is absolutely a family favorite!!! Although I have made a few tweaks of my own to it, but the original is equally delicious! My tweaks include some Worcestershire sauce and garlic cloves and I omit the scallions because my hubs is not a fan. It adds just a little bite! But again original recipe is exquisite! Thanks so much!!
I made this but I did add things we love. I sautéed one small diced onion until cooked through in one teaspoon of olive oil, then added two diced garlic cloves to the onions and cooked for another 3 minutes. I. grilled two Jalapeños, and chopped them fine. We added white cheddar and peeper jack cheese, following everything else and just added this to the recipe and served it with garlic crostini’s from a baguette we had. This recipe was delicious for our family. I think its a great base to add your family favorites.
I have made this many times. It’s delicious but I have tweaked the recipe a bit. I add a couple cloves of garlic and a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce and omit the onions ( only because my hubby is not a fan). It’s delicious, my children request it for every event we attend or have.
Hi do you sautee the garlic before adding it in?
Umnm
It looks delicious I’m gonna try it in the slow cooker
The dip was very tasty but I felt like it had a gritty texture I followed the recipe is there something I can do different?
Hi Jannette, Did you happen to use pre-shredded cheese? That can often times cause a gritty texture once melted.
There is no shredded cheese in the ingredients
Hi Cathy, Yes, right underneath the cream cheese, it states 8 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded. Enjoy!
Hi there this lookings amazing however do you have different measurements? In Australia we use grams not ounces, if you could would be great!
Made this tonight and no one can taste the bacon. Followed recipe exactly. So disappointed. :(
This dip is steller and a real winner with the guys. I kept it warm in a small crockpot because it definitely becomes harder to scoop as it cools. I found the taste with Ruffles to be the best combination. Thanks for the recipe!
I added jalapeno the second time to give a little spice!
Did u add raw jalapeños?
Hello! Do you happen to know approx. how many slices of bacon 12oz would be? I know it would of course vary depending on brand, but just a rough guess would be helpful! Thanks! :)
Hi Lindz, It definitely depends on the package, but I buy Applegate Uncured Sunday Bacon, which is 8 ounces and it usually has 8 slices of medium-cut bacon. So I would approximate 12 slices.
Scallions are spring onions/green onions I think you call them in USA NOT chives
Hi Ruth, The terms scallions and green onions are used interchangeably, chives are completely different.
Looking at it that I feel hungry
It looks very tasty
Bacon and cheese, 2 of my favorite things to eat! We’ll definitely be trying this!
Can I mix this up this the night before and bake it the next day?
Hi Ashley, Yes, definitely!
Made this for a birthday dinner party today. Everyone raved about it. It was absolutely fantastic warm, and was still delicious at room temperature.
Hi Michelle! I was just wondering – how does this hold up when it starts to cool? Is it best served in a warmer or even using a fondue set (YES I DO THAT!) to keep it scoopable or is there enough sour cream / cream cheese in it not to have to worry about that? I made a hot cheese dip the other day that just seized up 10 minutes after I put it out, I was so disappointed! :)
Hi Nagi, This won’t seize up, it will stay scoopable even at room temperature. However, if you want it to stay gooey and super soft, putting it in a fondue set or small crock pot on warm would do the trick!
I love melty cheese dip! I cannot wait to make it this weekend.
Oh, my gosh! I want this on a slice of baguette. Right NOW would be good. We’ve been into jalapeno bacon dip lately but this is next! Thanks
This is just the epitome of comfort food… all that cheese. Yum!
A perfect – and absolutely delicious! – gameday appetizer idea!

This looks crazy good! Nothing better than melty cheese dip!
This recipe would win any man’s heart. That’s all I can say and would be my advice for any lady trying to impress a man. And yes, what about a recipe from a man trying to impress a woman? I would say something with chocolate or coconut.
This dip looks so delicious. I totally agree that you can’t go wrong with cheese and bacon!
Is it wrong that I want to eat this by the spoonful? It looks incredible!
Not wrong at all – highly encouraged :)
