Friday Things
1.ย Einstein had his follow-up appointment for his eye this week and while itโs still not quite 100%, it has dramatically improved and looks nearly the normal. The vet said it could have been caused by any number of things, including allergies, a cold, etc. He did have a little bit of a cough last week, so weโre thinking they were related. Heโs back to his old self again!
2. Well, I did it. I ordered the new iPhone. Itโs not expected to be delivered until mid-October, so no instant gratification for me. I went back and forth between the 6 and 6 Plus, and ended up getting the 6 Plus.ย Looking forward to a new toy next month!
3.ย I am 23 weeks along now (will be 24 weeks on Monday!), and Duke decided to shuffle in duringย my most recent belly picture, and it turned out to be my favorite picture yet :)
4.ย Speaking of pregnancy, I was THRILLED when I received a couple of actual maternity pieces in my last StitchFix box! Some of you asked when I first began talking about them last year if they offered maternity pieces, and at the time they did not. I assume theyโve started to acquire some recently, which I love, since Iโve been pretty much living in Old Navy maternity t-shirts!
5.ย I love bears, but I think it I were this close to one without some type of barrier, I would probably freak outโฆ Itโs totally adorable, though!
6.ย Iโm not sure how many of you follow Cookie Monster Cooking, but last week she did a three-part series on meal planning, and I loved it. While I love doing things in the kitchen, Iโm admittedly horrible at making sure we have food to make actual meals during the week, so most of the time we fly by the seat of our pants for dinner. With a baby coming, Iโve been meaning to get more organized in terms of shopping and meals, and so Ashleyโs series came at the perfect time. She broke her planning down into The Why, The How, and Dinner Inspirations. Iย personally love โThe Howโ section!

9.ย I havenโt mentioned TV in awhile, mainly because we hadnโt found anything new or interesting to watch. Weโre getting back into Boardwalk Empire, but still need to watch the second episode. Our most recent favorite find is the mini-series โThe Rooseveltsโ, which is airing on PBS. Weโre both suckers for history series like that, and weโve only watched the first installment, but so far itโs incredibly interesting. It follows the story of Teddy Roosevelt and Franklin Roosevelt, a bit about their family background, and then how they both came to be president. Highly recommend!

Hi. Love your dogs and baby bump! If you still have indigestion, my niece (when she was recently pregnant) used pure therapeutic peppermint oil on her throat, and she said it IMMEDIATELY went away. (I suggest Young Living Essential Oils)

My apologies if this seems obvious and not logistically possible, but why donโt you start creating more main meal dishes for the site, which can be dinner or a really nice big lunch? It just seems easier than spending all day whipping up dips and baked goods, and then 5 or 6pm rolls around and the last thing you feel like doing is cooking something else. Obviously it wouldnโt work everyday, but itโs a start.

I didnโt go to finishing school, but when I was in Girl Scouts, they had us all take a day-long etiquette class where we learned things like proper table manners and how to set a table, things about addressing letters and such, and so on. If I remember correctly, we even had to dress up for it. I do remember the fork and knife thing from that! Havenโt thought about that class in years, thanks for the memories!
I have to tell you that I love the baby bump photo. My computer has been acting up lately so when the photo appeared, it was cut off just below the bottom of your purple shirt so all that appeared was Dukeโs nose and eye. I thought it was too adorable. The rest of the photo finally appeared but I think I like the cut off version better! I started watching the PBS Roosevelt series too. I have learned so much about Teddy โฆmuch more than I ever knew . Certainly, all the interconnected family info is so interesting and intriguing.Happy weekend!

Its really hard having our four-legged kids not feeling well since they canโt talk to us about whatโs going on. Thanks for keeping the recipes and hints coming! I had no idea that there were so many different meanings how you place your utensils on the plate! :)

On the plate manners my dad always told me if I was done with my meal put my knife and fork together on the plate but I never knew there was a specific direction to place them and all the other meanings, wow.
Iโm sorry that Einstein isnโt completely well, but really happy heโs much better.
A friend of mine went to the Verizon store today and stood in line, just to find out that THEY HAD NO iPhone 6 Plus phones! The folks there told him to be there at 5:30 a.m. and that there would already be a line, but that he would be able to get his phone, without telling him that they couldnโt sell anything until 8:00 a.m.! He was #15 at 8:00 a.m. only to be told that Apple didnโt send them any 6 Plus phones! Oh, well, such is the way of Apple!

Iโm really wondering how they are going to end Boardwalk Empire โ canโt wait for the next episode! And, we, too, are loving the Roosevelts, too! I canโt wait for them to really get into Eleanorโs part โ she was quite the woman. Teddy was nothing like I thought he would be โ and I NEVER knew that Franklin was so unliked as a young man.

Cute bump pic with Duke! I started watching The Roosevelts and love it! If you want more Roosevelt info I heard that the The River of Doubt: Theodore Rooseveltโs Darkest Journey is a great book! I havenโt read it yet but think Iโm going to pick it up after the miniseries!
That belly photo is too cute. If youโre still looking for shows and you havenโt given it a try yet, I cannot recommend Orphan Black enough. Fast moving, great acting, but only two seasons so far.
As a momma (who still regularly fails to meal plan), I can confirm that meal planning would be a REALLY good habit to get into now!
And the whole fork-thingโฆ so my parents are uber-traditional and actually taught me all these types of things (also napkin positioning and stuff)โฆ a TON of servers donโt even know that stuff (like theyโll ask if they can take my plate, even if my forks say, โNo Iโm not done! I want to lick my plate before you take it away!โ)โฆ and not at Chiliโs/Olive Garden, even nice places, so donโt feel bad!

Poor Duke! My dog Chloe has allergies and it is terrible for her when it is hot out she is so itchy. Love that pregnancy photo. Also I ordered my first stitch fix this week, I canโt wait to get it but it wonโt come until mid-October :( Have a great weekend!
Where did you find the toy that Duke has in the photo? I have a 9 month.old golden retriever who would love that toy. Rings and a ball-his favorites!!
LOL they are two separate things โ he was carrying a tennis ball in his mouth when he picked up the rings. He wants allllll the toys!

Beautiful pregnancy photo! I never had any photos taken of me when I was pregnant and regret that. I was eating uber-healthy too throughout my pregnancies and am sad that I canโt show the girls any photoโs with them in my belly. And speaking of Stitch-Fixโฆโฆ.I think Iโm almost ready to commit! My S-I-L in 6 months pregnant and said they did an awesome job of sending her maternity clothes that werenโt really maternity clothes, just bigger in the stomach area and they worked for her! Better still, since theyโre not really maternity, theyโll work after the pregnancy as well. For a frump like me, I really need to try stitch Fix!
I have followed your site for years because I love your recipes and kitchen advice, but I have to say some of my favorite things you post are about your dogs (and your complete love for them that is so obvious) and now your baby bits!
