Friday Things

1. Two things about this photo:
#1 โ It looks like Duke is taking an oath.
#2 โ How insanely HUGE is his paw?! It looks like Iโm shaking hands with a lion!
2. Thank you for the sweet birthday wishes on Tuesday! You all are the best! I enjoyed a great day โ a fantastic lunch with my Chief Culinary Consultant, and then the hockey game in the evening. It was perfect!
3.ย So, funny story. A few nights ago my Chief Culinary Consultant snapped a photo of me eating a baked potato while Duke and Einstein were begging. He showed me the picture and I was stunned โ my left hand holding the fork looked totally distorted and weird. I was all, โoh my gosh,ย whatย am I doing?!โ He proceeded to tell me thatโs how Iโve held my fork since he met me and he always thought it was a little weird but never said anything. AGH! I looked like a cavewoman holding that thing! I immediately Googled how to hold silverware appropriatelyโฆ oddly enough, I hold my knife the correct way, but for some reason the fork in the left hand was an issue. Thankfully, I have resolved the situation. Needless to say, I never learned how to walk with a stack of books on my head ;-)
4. Did you see this list on Buzzfeed? โ 18 Songs From the โ90s You Grew Up Singing But Shouldnโt Haveโฆ Seriously! Most of these were popular when I was in the 11-16 age range, and my friends and I listened to just about every single one. Good God, parenting a teenage girl must be a serious nightmare. So much more perspective when youโre, you know, 34 as opposed to 15.
5. Lay some recommendations on meโฆ what is your favorite Internet radio service (aside from Pandora)?
Save This Recipe
6. Ahhh, this is so true:
7.ย Have any of you purchased clothes or swimsuits fromย Athleta? I just got a catalog in the mail and am digging a lot of the pieces. Wondering if the fit is good and if they use quality fabrics?
8. For some reason, Iโve been convinced for years that I didnโt like Cadbury Creme Eggs. Convinced, I tell you. Then, the other day I was standing in the checkout at the grocery store and there was a huge display of them, taunting me. So, I bought one. I ate it, andโฆ I actually liked it. I guess I donโt hate them after all! Iโve confused myself.
9. As part of my birthday gift, my sister is going to teach me how to knit (along with outfitting me with some supplies) โ yay! Do you have any patterns (for anything, really) that would be good for a beginner?
10. TGIF! Ahh, brotherly loveโฆ

Iโll second spotify.
And on the music from the 80s, we arenโt much better nowadays. Iโm reminded of a quote that you donโt realise how inappropriate the lyrics are to most songs until you hear a 9 year old singing themโฆ.
Hereโs my two cents about Athletaโฆ I had a gift card from here and was ready to spend money and had trouble finding anything worth the steep price. My thighs are muscular (not thin or bulky), but the workout pants do NOT pass the bend-over test, even the thickest fabrics. Also, my cellulite shows through them, and my much-thinner sister had the same problems. Read the description of the tops before buying because some of them that arenโt fitted are tight on top and fit the torso like a parachute; the model photos do not adequately reflect the billowing. Pros: the colors are beautiful, the Bettona pants (non-workout) are nice and cute.
My mom, Pat Springer, has some knitting videos on youtube. She also sells knitting supplies online and videos. you could call her too and she would try to help you over the phone. springersales.com
The puppies look like theyโre being knighted. Too cute!!
Aloha from Maui,
1 โ Your dogs are too cute!
2 โ I love swimsuits from athlete because you can get underwire swimsuit topsโฆkeeping everything where it should be :)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Michelle happy belated birthday! Just wanted so
Say, Thank You for your Friday posts! It always puts a smile on my
Face when I see Einstine and duke! Xo
All your dog pictures make me want a dog. Dukeโs giant paw is too cute!
First of all, #6 is so true. Camping sucks. Modern conveniences were invented so people wouldnโt have to live like that anymore. Why people do it voluntarily is beyond me!
Second, love Athleta. I have bought both workout clothes and โnormalโ clothes from them. The workout tops tend to be a little tight, I think, but the sizing on workout pants is pretty true. Iโve also gotten jackets/hoodies, dresses, and skirts. All of those have been true-to-size. Good quality pieces. Iโd recommend.
#5: The FitRadio Ap is simple and superb! My workout time flies by and now I listen to do it doing chores around the house :)
Start with something small for your first knitting project. A scarf goes on and on so itโs hard to get the gratification of finishing that first project. Iโd start with a washcloth โ even if itโs wonky itโs still useable. Grandmaโs favorite dishcloth is a good pattern because you can learn a basic increase and decrease right away. The only drawback is cotton can be a little hard on the hands.
Also echoing the many voices recommending Ravelry. I feel like Iโve learned so much about knitting being on there.
And your puppies are seriously adorable. I love that you post a picture of them every week!
I recommend doing a dishcloth as your first knitting project, rather than a scarf. Itโs smaller, so youโll finish it before you can get bored. And youโll be able to use it in the kitchen even if it doesnโt look perfect.
yeah i too need to see the pic! i have been following your blog for a while now but i read it thru email so dont usually commentโฆthis has brought me out of the woodwork! post it please!!
That article about the songs is hilarious, because there have been so many times that my now-33-year-old self hears songs on the radio and I feel like an old lady because Iโm like, โdear God, CHILDREN are listening to this!! CHILDREN!!!!โ And then I flash back to times like when my dad had a full-on freakout when he heard โIโll Make Love to Youโ on my radio, or when I copied down all of the lyrics to one of my favorite songs, โIfโ by Janet Jackson (which is ten times dirtier than โAny Time, Any Place,โ FTR) when I was 13 and my parents found it and freaked. I had no freakinโ clue what the song meant but now I think about the lyrics and Iโm like, no wonder my parents lost it. (Matter of fact, that whole album, janet., is awesome and so totally inappropriate.) Also, my younger sister and her friend memorized โShoopโ when they were in sixth grade. SIXTH! I told my husband that experiences like that are something we need to remember when we overheard our children singing inappropriate songs: they have no clue what theyโre saying.
Michelle,
Sorry I missed your birthday. Happy Belated Birthday. Your little guys are so cute. Love them.
