Friday Things #564

1. Isabelle was SO EXCITED to get braces yesterday! Sheโs been counting the days and feels like such a big kid.
2. It has BEEN. A. WEEK. I came down with the flu right after we got back from New York last week (miracle of miracles that I did not get sick while we were gone, I was praying very hard once I knew Joseph had the flu that if I were going to get sick I could at least get through the trip first, which thank goodness, prayers answered). I donโt think Iโve had the flu since I was younger and ugh it is awfulโฆ the lingering cough and exhaustion are no joke. But, Iโm certainly on the other side and done with fevers, body aches, etc!
3. Joseph ended up developing myositis with the flu; he had horrible leg pain and a lot of trouble walking. The doctor said they having been seeing TONS of it with kids who have the flu this year; he ended up getting IV fluids, which fixed the issue pretty much immediately, but my gosh, this germ season can be done now.
4. I flew through The Favorites between our trip and then spending countless hours on the couch. Though most of the characters werenโt terribly likable, it was such a great story and kept me captivated; it was definitely a page-turner for me.
5. Almost one week into daylight savings time and Iโm still as staunchly in my standard-time-forever corner as ever. Just when the mornings were starting to get lighter we had to go and change the clocks. Ugh, I am not a fan and cannot be convinced. It WILL naturally stay lighter later anyway.
6. Looking for something festive to make on Monday? I have tons of St. Patrickโs Day recipes โ dinners, as well as desserts! Do you have a favorite?
7. If you need a digital break >> A Break from Your Smartphone Can Reboot Your Mood
8. Okay Iโm intrigued by this bacon cooking method, but I love using the oven because it can cook away without me needing to babysit it!
9. Love this list of 10 Cheap Hobbies You Can Start Basically for Free, and also had to chuckle a little at the idea of a journal where you glue in different momentosโฆ my friends and I did this in high schoolโฆ apparently we were ahead of the curve lol.
10. TGIF!ย The coziest dog of all time ๐ฉท

Thank you for sharing that bacon cooking method!! I tried it and am completely blown away. Perfectly crisp, and the best part is my stove, cabinets, and floor were not splattered with grease!!ย
A quick questionโฆ.what ย is the hair product you found helpful for thinning hair?โฆnot quite a recipe issue ;-)
Thanks for your time.
This years flu was definitely a tough one, got it a month ago and I still get easily tired. Iโm not a fan of daylight savings time either, just pick one and stick with it, there is no legitimate reason for it any longer.
I thought I would share this with you ! My daughter developed a gap in her two front teeth in high school. We fitted her with clear braces which fixed it except she had to use retainers. She developed the gap again that kept breaking the retainers . She had her daughter at 40. Lo and behold baby was having trouble nursing as did her baby cousin. We found lip ties run in my husbandโs family and that is also what was causing the gap in my daughterโs teeth! Baby had an upper lip tie, ย y daughter had upper and lower. She said she always wondered why it was so hard to smile in drill team ! Lip ties are all repaired and both smile easily now! No one knew in the past, apparently even dentists are new to this ! ย You might check in case it runs in your family too!ย
Yay Isabelle! ย Oddly I need braces NOW in my 60s!!
Standard Time all the way!๐
I love the bacon cooking method. I see BLTs in my future! Iโm gonna try it this weekend.
Iโm wondering if you got a flu shot. I religiously get mine every year & havenโt gotten the flu in years, but I wonder if itโs from the vaccine or the fact that Iโm now retired & pretty much stay home. Glad youโre feeling better.
Hi Martha, I did not get a flu shot this year.
I am SO with you on keeping Standard time year round. I love early morning light, and like you said, in the summer/early fall, it will be lighter later anyway. I always enjoy your Friday Things.
Oh, so sorry to hear what you and Joseph have been going through. How awful! Happy smiles to Isabelle and her new adventure. I do remember those days of my own and my sons. Totally agree on the Time change- we are still adjusting here, too. Hoping everyone is feeling better and that spring time fresh air and sunshine bring healthier days ahead.
I also hate the time change, just leave the clocks alone :(
Daylight saving time saves nothing. It just shifts when the sun comes up and goes down. You add nothing. It also messes with everyoneโs body clocks. Standard time forever!!!
I am so curious about Isabelleโs braces. She is so young โฆa first graderโฆ and canโt have possible lost all her baby teeth. Are the teeth braced ย so as to train the new teeth as they come in ย and/or did she have to have baby teeth removed before they loosened on their own? I just always think of braces as a 10-12 year old thing.
Sorry to hear the flu visited your house. It is no fun but I am happy you all seem to be on the road to recovery. Hopefully, spring warmth will bring good health!!
Hi Nancy, Yes itโs so different from when we were kids! They donโt do a full set of braces until all of their adult teeth come in, but most places do early intervention for some issues with a smaller set (Joseph also had a set of just four across his top when he was in 1st grade). It helps to prevent needing more invasive intervention later on.
