Friday Things #554

1. Hello, hello! I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday; we are still in slow mode over here, as the kids donโt go back to school until Monday. Itโs been a fantastically relaxing break and while Iโm craving a little bit of a return to routines, I always hate when breaks end!
2. We had a great holiday, celebrating Christmas, went ice skating outside, taught the kids how to play dominoes on New Yearโs Eve, Dominic and Isabelle built gingerbread houses, we ate lots of cookies, watched a lot of college football and world juniors hockey, I did a lot of puzzling and readingโฆ all in all, itโs been glorious!
3. Speaking of reading, I finished The Friend Zone (Abby Jimenez) and even though it started a tad slow for me, I ended up loving it! I just dove right into the second book in that trilogy, The Happy Ever After Playlist.
4. Do you track your books on Goodreads? I love setting reading goals, though I came ONE SHORT of meeting my goal last year (Iโm blaming how long it took me to get through two books I really, really didnโt like). My goal this year is to read 18 books, which I guess seems low (so many people I follow on Instagram read upwards of 100!), but I donโt do audiobooks or Kindle, so this is a realistic goal for me.
5. And on that note, I happened to see this amazing cross-stitch bookmark that you can make, which is also a reading tracker. I havenโt done any cross stitch since I was probably in middle school or high school, but this makes me want to dive back in and make this a little project for the year!
6. What are you looking forward to cooking this month? I think the first two things on my list are going to be chicken with mushrooms and wild rice soup!
7. A few years ago, I was on a serious kale salad kick for lunches and it may be the lack of cooking over the last couple of weeks, but Iโm craving salads again right now! I love keeping chopped kale in the fridge, along with shredded carrots, using some type of protein (turkey, chicken, bacon), cheddar, cucumbers, chopped apple, and croutons.
8. Ahhh I LOVED Youโve Got Mail when it came out (I still do!) >> 26 Years Later, People Are Relating to Youโve Got Mailโs Celebration of Small Life More Than Ever
9. Weโve started watching Landman, and I am loving it! Though, when I first saw Billy Bob Thorntonโs ex-wife in the show I had to do a double take because I was pretty sure it was the girl from Varsity Blues, and turns out I was right. That came out when I was in college aaaaaaand now I feel REALLY old.
10. TGIF!ย The pups say Happy January!

Love the cross stitch bookmark link! Thanks so much. I have had a reading goal for the past few years. I was one book short this year, but it doesnโt bother me. As long as I am reading and reading for fun/relaxation I am happy. I also do a lot of physical reading (vs. audiobooks.) I use my audio time to listen to podcasts. Enjoy the last few days of school vacay!
I donโt have a goal for book reading. ย I read every night before bed and if I wake up, I read to send myself back to sleep. ย I would feel pressured if I had a goal so I just enjoy what I can. ย I canโt even estimate how many books a year but itโs probably a book a week which I read on my Kindle.
I just enjoyed The Recruit on Netflix and Inspector Ellis as well as the first episodes of Darby and Joan on Acorn.ย
Happy New Year!!! Sounds like you are having a fun filled holiday vacation. That bookmark is such a cute idea. I am a slower reader, so it would take forever for me to fill it, but I love it.
Thank you, Michelle, for all of your posts and recipes. I have made your โCreamy Mashed Potatoesโ several times during this holiday season, sometimes doubling and tripling the recipe. RAVE reviews every time. This will be my forever mashed potato recipe.
Wishing you and your family a Blessed Happy New Year!
The cutest picture of your children, they are adorable. Happy New Year to all.
love love love landman! ย soooo good. ย and also love ali larter.ย
Happy New Year to you all! ย Glad Christmas and New Years were great for you guys! ย
ย
I am all about the soups, stews and chilis this year! We are just loving them. ย With a little more snow on the ground this morning Iโm working on a white chicken chili with butternut squash for tonight. ย
What about an old-fashioned stroganoff or something along those lines! ย Iโm feeling super cozy! ๐งก
Oh โ and just saw that the 2nd season of The Diplomat was released on Netflix. ย Great show if you can overlook the terrible language. ย Why, oh Why must we accept a pottymouth?
Oh my gosh, stroganoff sounds absolutely delicious! ย So perfect for chilly nights, isnโt it.
I love The Diplomat and donโt find the language offensive. ย Maybe cuz Iโm old and have heard it all ๐.
Elated! Little Domi together with his beloved siblingsโฆ.
May 2025 be filled with abundant blessingsโฆ
Great cook
You will love the Happy Ever After Playlist, I have read all the Abby Jimenez books, and that was my favorite! Happy new year!
Take a look at Maxinne Morrey books, especially โThe Christmas Project โ. Wonderful bff, handsome guy with a chip on his shoulder wonderful pups based in London. I love her books full of heart similar to Abbeyโs books which I love. I donโt count audiobooks either but I love them for when Iโm giving the kitchen a big clean like yesterday.ย
The kids look happy and love their pajamas! Iโm so happy for all of you.ย
Happy New Year!
Love the Christmas PJ Trio and Furry Sleeping Duo!
After all of the calorie packed holiday meals, we are craving soup and salads, too. Would you share some of your favorite soup recipes please!
Looking forward to another year of your fabulous posts and pics.
I love the pictures and recipes. So happy Dominic is doing well. They, all three, are adorable. Love and blessings to you!
Merry Christmas and Hapoy New Year! Love the photo of your kids in matching pjโs!
We just started watching Landman too! Weโre in the 3rd episode. Billy Bob Thornton is such a great actor.
If you enjoy Taylor Sheridan series, one of his that we watched (while we were waiting for Yellowstone to come back), is Bass Reaves. Itโs based on the real life Bass Reaves from the 1860โs. Very well acted.
