Friday Things #528

1. The boys were finished with school a few days after Memorial Day, and that Saturday, we hit the road and spent all of last week on vacation in Oak Island, North Carolina! It was such a much-needed and long-overdue vacation that we all thoroughly enjoyed. It was so fun watching the kids have a ball and play endlessly on the beach or in the pool.
2. We took half a day and drove up to Wilmington to tour the USS North Carolina battleship and oh my goodness, Dominic LOVED it! I was surprised and so thrilled that he got so much enjoyment out of it!

3. The first couple of days after we were home earlier this week, the weather here was in the mid-60โs and 70ish, then yesterday it went into the mid-80s. I absolutely thrive in mild weatherโฆ give me 70 and breezy all day everyday. The heat is not for me (Iโm sweating just looking at next weekโs forecast that includes 6 straight days in the 90s, sandwiched between three days in the upper 80โs, ugh).
4. It had been many years since we went to the beach, and I have to rave about the beach bag that I got for this trip โ the Scout 3 Girls Bag (extra large zip-top tote bag). I honestly felt like this was Mary Poppinsโ bag because you can fit SO MUCH inside and even though I packed it totally full to travel, it still wasnโt too heavy to carry. I packed in five beach towels, a pouch of goggles, a pouch of multiple sunscreens, everyoneโs multiple bathing suits, and TWO sets of floaties. And I could have squeezed in more stuff. An amazing bag, I canโt wait to get more use out of it this summer!

6. Do you have a go-to Fatherโs Day dessert you always make? I typically ask my husband and my father-in-law what theyโd like and it changes year to year, but my grandpapโs birthday always fell around Fatherโs Day and he was a huge Oreo fan, so I loved making my no-bake Oreo layer dessert for him; itโs a great summer dessert!
7. A list of the least-visited national parks has me wanting to make a trip to Alaska, so beautiful!
8. Who are you rooting for in the NHL finals? We are a house divided; my husband is rooting for Florida and Joseph is rooting for Emonton. The rest of us are indifferent :)
9. I love this piece of advice on creating new habits:
โIf youโre having trouble sticking to a new habit, try a smaller version until it becomes automatic. Do less than youโre capable of, but do it more consistently than you have before.โ
10. TGIF!ย We brought the pups along to the beach with us and they had fun, too! :)

Canadian here. ย I think you mean Edmonton in #8 ๐. ย Typo? ย May the best team winโฆIโm not into sports ๐ .
Your vacation sounds wonderful for everyone.
Iโm waiting for summer to really arrive here. ย Our city is between 2 lakes (so if itโs hot, weโve got 2 places to cool off) and is a great vacation destination in BC. ย Usually hot (high 20s (C)-low 30s) in summer but not so much so far this year. ย Come on summer!!!
What a great joy to see you little Dominic being back to normal- healthy, happy kiddo putting real big smiles. on our hearts and faceโฆ God Bless you and your loving family!
You must have a Mary Poppins vehicles wellโฆtwo adults, three kids , two big dogs and all your vacation stuff. I can only imagine!!
Your family deserves a special time togetherโฆwaya and just enjoying the start of the summer weeks!
Michelle!
Love this post!
If youโre going to be a National Park family, get your children the Passport so they can get stamps in their Passport at each Visitor Center. We did that for our family and itโs such a wonderful thing to re-visit those memories.
If you go to NYC, perhaps your family would like visiting the Naval Vessel at the pier there. Not sure it has a National Monument or Park status. Itโs very interesting.
So glad you could go to NC for a vacation. Happy Summer!
So glad you all had a fab vacation!ย
Weโll be visiting Wilmington as well. & plan on seeing the battleship too.
Were there any restaurants that you liked, while there?
Oh, what a great start to summer with a beach vacation and getting to take those cute pups along too! The kiddos look so happy. I bet it was a lot of fun. Love the beach bag. It looks nice and roomy.
