Friday Things #339

1. Oh hello, Joseph has suddenly turned into a teenager.
2. Dominic had his school โbreakthroughโ this week! Both days that he went, there were no tears and he was happy and excited to be there. It took until the fourth week of school, but it makes my heart so happy to know HEโS happy and content :) And I just melt when heโs snuggled up under his blankets at bedtime.
3. I feel like my children got exponentially clingier as we went along, as in Joseph would happily go to grandparents, aunts, uncles, whoever, etcโฆ Dominic took awhile and clung to me much tighterโฆ and Isabelle. Hoo boy, if I could have someone drop change in a jar every time that girl says, โMamaโ or cries when I put her down or leave the room, I could retire in no time. While itโs exhausting, I do love that my babies love and want their mommy :)
Also, Dominicโs photobomb of this picture is everything:
4. My kind of diet:
Save This Recipe
5. My gosh, could not stop the tears on this one >> The Nights Are So Long
6. I feel like itโs prime season for whipping up a batch of Jewish apple cake.
7. I had to Google โhyggeeโ this week because I saw it in multiple places and had NO idea what it meant. I am so not cool.
8. Can you believe Christmas stuff is popping up on Pinterest already?! Show of hands โ who has started Christmas shopping? I WISH I were that on top of things!
9. This week we watched The Spy on Netflix and enjoyed it. Realized at the end it was based on a true story, and who knew Sacha Baron Cohen could do a serious role?!
10. TGIF! Someone has a 3rd birthday coming up next week! (Actually, weโll be celebrating TWO 3rd birthdays in our house next week ;-))

I am a single parent and my daughters starting pre-school, I am ashamed to say it but I panic when she start crying for me not to leave and I will stay or take her with me. I am ashamed of it and know its not right but when she says my name I feel like i am abandoning her. Is there anything you did that made it to where it didnโt hurt as bad when they cried for you? Thanks
Ugh, itโs so hard, isnโt it?! Broke my heart :( So, Joseph never cried, which both shocked me and made me feel bad in its own right, as well, lol! But with Dominic, there really isnโt an option for the parent to stay, they are dropped off right at the door to the classroom and the parents donโt go in. The teachers really work with the parents in those early weeks to talk the kids through it ahead of time and come up with a routine/goodbye plan and then stick to it. The teachers are wonderful and will pick the kids up, hug them, etc. as needed. I will say it did help that the assistant teacher in Dominicโs class is a friend of mine, so she would often text me pictures of him happily playing less than 10 minutes after dropoff, so I could see he calmed down and was over it shortly after me leaving. I would keep reminding him that I know itโs hard and new but that I would always come back and Iโd be excited to hear about all the things he did. Honestly, one day a flip was just switched. Up until then, he would say he didnโt want to go the whole morning and on the way to school, etcโฆ. and then one day he didnโt complain, and he was fine at drop off. And itโs been that way since. I hope that helped in some way :)
P.s. soooooooo so love that pic of Dominic snuggling his Snoopy. So sweet!!
Oh my goodness I was just looking at a picture of Joseph at age 1 I think it was on your golden cake blog. It was such a sweet picture, adorable baby boy. Heโs an adorably handsome young guy nowโฆgrew up so fast๐ happy birthday to Judith. Her fur coat looks so clean and fluffy. What a beautiful dog. Your family is blessed to have such loving parents.
Always love to read about you and your lovely family. My granddaughter went through same as Dominic, was so sad for her Mom to leave her at daycare and then go off to work. But we break up her week and pick her up from daycare 3 or 4 times a week for the afternoon! She is a joy to be with.
I canโt believe how grown up Joseph looks, so cute. Each are growing up so fast, hang in there, before you know it they will be teenagers, then the worry begins.
Iโve finished my Christmas shopping. I start in January & pick up a few things every month from Kohls sales. Itโs hard to stop. I keep a running list on my computer.
Joseph really DOES look all grown up! Good to hear that Dominic has turned the corner โ and I know what you mean about Isabelle! My youngest boy was the exact same way! He hardly ever had an overnight at his grandparentsโ houses because come evening, he would say โI need to go home now, my Mommy needs me.โ Makes my heart still even thinking about it 39 years later! โค๏ธ
Found another neat little British comedy on Acorn โ โThe Detectorists.โ Try it out. AND: Doc Martin Season 9 JUST started!!! There is one episode out now, with one every Thursday โ but sadly, only 8 episodes. They are talking about MAYBE 2 more seasons, HOPEFULLY!
Have a great weekend โ and canโt wait fir birthday pics!!
I never start Christmas shopping this early, but usually by this time of year I have a good idea of what Iโm buying for my family. ย This year โ no clue. ย I also canโt think of a thing that I want. ย
Oh my gosh, that was the first thing I thought when I saw the photo of Joseph โ when did he become a teenager?? Lol, slow down young man!! Heโs going to be a heartbreaker!
Iโve been known to eat leftover citrus tart or a hummingbird cupcake for breakfast๐. ย I mean the latter has 2 types of fruit and protein from the eggs, walnuts and cream cheese icing, right?
I have started to think of ideas to get my kids for Christmas that will not add more clutter to our house. But havenโt started shopping yet.
Ahhhh โ beautiful children, beautiful pup and beautiful YOU! Thank you for all you do for us :) have a great weekend!
