Friday Things

1. All three of the kids have been sleeping until somewhere in the vicinity of 7:30am most mornings for the last few weeks (and can we talk about how Isabelle is rocking 13+ hour nights?!). It is DIVINE and I will continue to enjoy it for the next week, until we have to turn the clocks back and inevitably ruin mornings for the next handful of months. Every year, as soon as we turn the clocks back, they start trying to get up at 5:15am and then after a week of absolutely wretched early mornings, they usually settle around 6:15/6:30am as their new wakeup time until, like, April.
2. Are you dressing up for Halloween this year? If so, what are you being? (Or what are your kids being?) Weโre not dressing up, but the kids are set with their costumes, which is light years ahead of where we usually are this time of year, ha.
3. Speaking of Halloween, Josephโs class has a little trick or treat thing at school, and everyone can send something in, but it has to a non-edible โtreat/giftโ. It has been a crazy busy week and I kept trying to figure out when I could make it over to Target or Michaelโs to look for some things, even though itโs in the opposite direction of everywhere else we needed to be this week. Then I remembered that itโs 2018 and I went online and found some cute goodies for the kids, and BOOM theyโre already here. Living in the future is awesome.
4. I made Cincinnati chili for dinner on Sunday and bought a bag of oyster crackers as one of the toppings. Whyyyyyy are oyster crackers so irresistible?! I could literally eat like half of a bag in one sitting. They were one of the things that I ate in excess during each of my pregnancies during the first trimester nausea when only massive amounts of dry carbs would suffice.
5. Question for you! Do you use (or find helpful) the three tab functionality in the comments section? Do you click over to the โQuestionโ or โReviewโ tabs? Or do you just scroll through all of the comments anyway?

6. Now that Iโm all up-to-date on podcasts, letโs talk about Spotify (seriously I wasnโt kidding when Iโm like a decade behind the rest of the Internet). Do you use it? HOW do you use it? Do you download songs? Make your own playlists? Use other peopleโs playlists? Teach me!
7. I finally got Chrissy Teigenโs new cookbook, Cravings: Hungry For More! Iโve been meaning to grab it, and you probably remember me gushing non-stop about her first book, Cravingsโฆ seriously, every single recipe Iโve made from it has been amazing. And let me tell you, I have almost this entire second book doggy-eared. I canโt wait to start cooking from it (and I am typically NOT a celeb cookbook fan, but boy has she done a phenomenal job with these!).
8. Are you watching the World Series? I honestly have zero rooting interest for or against either team, so I am completely disinterested this year.
9. We started a new show this week โ Bodyguard on Netflix. Apparently itโs a huge hit on BBC and Netflix picked it up โ weโve only watched one episode so far, but we were totally sucked in. Sort of Homeland meets House of Cards. Thumbs up!
10. TGIF! Have a wonderful pre-holiday weekend!

Hi Michelle, Land o Lakes donated to Steve King, a racist congressman who retweets Nazi sympathizers. Please stop using their products until they stop supporting him, and please do so publicly to show your support for Pittsburgh and to reject antiSemitism in all forms.ย
Iโm with you! I have 3 littles, the oldest is 3 as well. Weโre in Israel and we just switched the clocks tonight as Iโm typing this โ I donโt want to know what the morning will bring.. :( Youโre not alone though. Weโve also been doing early winter wake ups and itโs soo sad
The Bodyguard was good, only 6 episodes so it went too quick. ย Line of Duty was better though. ย Desperate for something good to watch! ย Watched Ozarks and 1st series of Fargoโฆmakes the people of the Midwest seem quite unusual! ย I only go to the Comments section in the tabs.
#4 โ Thereโs definitely something about oyster crackers. ย I canโt leave them out. ย And when thereโs a tummy upset, oyster crackers (or in a pinch, saltines) along with ginger ale are a necessity. ย
#5 โ ย I havenโt used the functionality tabs when posting or reading.
#7 โ Iโm not sure why, but Chrissyโs cookbooks donโt appeal to me. ย I did buy Inaโs new one. ย I still havenโt thoroughly looked through it, but the recipe for short ribs caught my eye. ย I read an interview in which she said sheโs well into working on cookbook #12. ย
YES! ย Every time I buy oyster crackers, I canNOT stop eating them (and neither can my husband or kids)! ย My husband I always wonder why they are SO addictive?! ย
Hi Michelle, LOVE the photos todayโ- soooo cute! I usually just scroll through the comments, but appreciate you pointing out the tabs! Yours is one of my FAVorite blogsโ Thanks!!
Hi. Iโve already made the banana bread from Chrissy Teigenโs new book. Itโs slightly different than most banana breads, but itโs very good. Extremely moist! Canโt wait to try more recipes. Have a great weekend :)
Yes, Michelle, I read the reviews ย and questions if itโs a recipe that interests me. ย I donโt read the other comments. I hope this helps.
Thanks for the recommendation for โThe Bodyguard.โ You sold me when you said Homeland and House of Cards! Iโd browsed by it but was scared to commit to yet another bingeworthy series! Iโm still working my way through โManifestโ the new fall show from NBC and catching up with โBlindspotโ and occasionally working up the courage to watch โThe Haunting of Hill House.โ
Hi
Michelle!
I am trying to grasp Spotify myself. Iโve been using it for a couple years b/c I understood it to be the music vehicle/source for the future (???). I do know that it is a โyounger generationโsโ go-to music source. I love the idea of making your own playlists and sharing them. I will bet you know Bev Weidner of Bev Cooks Blog
(http://bevcooks.com/about/). I donโt know the frequency, but Iโve downloaded about a dozen of her playlists to listen to and they are all great. This may be a good source for you to explore! Thanks for all you do for us!
*love* the three tabs. Definitely use themย
I do appreciate the three tab functionality. I donโt use it all the time, but if Iโve gone back and pulled up a recipe I want to try it can be helpful to get right to reviews or questions which might cover something of interest. Thanks for that!
I have a Halloween party tomorrow night and by the grace of the Goodwill store, I shall be there as Professor Trelawney. My friend is dressing up as Donna Noble from Doctor Who.
As for Spotify โ you follow bands you like and you get access to all their albums there. A good choice of someone to follow is Lin-Manuel Mirandaโs public profile, Tobillo24601, because last year he gifted us with monthly playlists he personally made following a theme (and thereโs at least one playlist that his wife made in reply to the one heโd made for that month). Just look up the username.
On the tab thing โ comment, review, question โ because I am compelled to follow directions, I try to post under the correct tab but I notice that most posts, no matter what they are, go under comment. If Iโm reading your readersโ posts, itโs because I want reviews โ what worked, what didnโt, what changes. Since no one reliably posts under reviews, I end up scanning through all of the comments. Iโm all for one tab for everything so thereโs less looking around to do and my neurotic need to follow directions can be more easily met.
Responding to #5, I LOVE the three tab feature! ย Iโm not all that interested in the comments, โit looks deliciousโ or โI canโt wait to try thisโ. Iโm ย interested in how the recipe turned out for the home baker. Itโs one reason your blog is my go to when looking for a new recipe. And for the record, every BEB recipe Iโve ever made has been a huge success! ย
Thank you for the reminder of Cincinnati Chili. I just added it to next weekโs meal planโฆ.so delicious!
Oysters crackers-so unassuming yet so delicious! ย I enjoy seasoning/baking them with the butter and dry ranch dressing blend, but theyโre great straight from the bag too. Have a great weekend. โบ๏ธย
I saw the first episode of the Bodyguard yesterday and canโt wait to see more. Seriously good show.
Target for the win for us! I got cute little glow stick bracelets, tattoos, and Halloween bags. ย My daughter can give candy so Iโll probably throw some in too! Oyster crackers are the best! My granny used to make oyster crackers mixed with dill and other spices around the holidays, and they were sooo yummy. Now that you have me thinking about them I may have to make them this year!ย
Iโm going to hit up Target for some glow sticks to give out on Halloween as a non-food treat if anyone wants! And I love the idea of seasoned oyster crackers!
There are recipes out there for oyster crackers seasoned with ranch dressing & seasoning mix. ย
Hi, I do use the 3 tabs, esp if itโs a recipe that has tons of comments. The only thing Iโve found between reading comments & just using the tabs, is that sometimes people comment, but donโt select the button, for if they have a comment or question. So then it all goes under โcomments,โ & when you try to filter by โquestion,โ only a couple might pop up.
Also, if itโs a recipe thatโs being re-purposed, it would be great to have the newer comments appear first.
Thx for all the great recipes! Hoping to make your white chicken chili this weekend!
Thanks for the feedback, Renee, I appreciate it! Enjoy the white chicken chili!
