Friday Things

1. Isabelle is three months old today! Itโs so incredibly cliche to say, but it has gone by in the blink of an eye, and it feels as though she has always been a part of our family. She is getting her chest wayyyyy off the ground during tummy time, rolling to her side while she sleeps, babbling A TON, and drooling so much. Itโs so fun to watch her grow and start interacting with everyone; she loves to smile at her brothers, has been reaching out for the dogs and little hanging toys, and is just a joy to have with us.
2. Did you have a good Fourth of July celebration this week? Share with me what you did and what you ate! We were low key here with burgers and hot dogs on the grill; all of the kids were asleep by 7:30, so we watched our neighborโs large (incredibly legit) fireworks display from our kitchen window with the pups :)
3. Last Sunday, on what was one of the hottest days of the year, our power went out, gah! Just the day before my husband had said, โI hope we donโt lose power over the next few days; with the heat wave and everyone cranking their air conditioning, Iโm afraid it might happen.โ Aaaaaaaaand 24 hours later, boom. We lowered all the blinds in the house (we have a lot of windows) and luckily it was only out for about three hours, so although it got kind of stuffy and humid, it never got unbearably hot. Whew!
4. AND THENโฆ two days later, on Tuesday, I took Isabelle up for a nap and it felt SO HOT in her room, like the heat was on. I had just been up there maybe an hour earlier and it was not that warm, so I came down and told my husband. He went up and realized the A/C was most certainly not working, so he called the service company. This was at 4pm on July 3rd, so we just assumed we were going to have to suck it up and deal with broken A/C in 90+-degree weather for two days because of the holiday. They had someone at our house within an hour! The motor in the fan was the issue, but the guy got it to start back up until he could get the replacement part installed on Thursday. HOWEVERโฆ he said, just make sure you set it low enough so it keeps running because if it stops it probably wonโt start up again. Therefore, it was freeeeeeeeezing Tuesday and Wednesday night, as in, I slept in sweatpants, a sweatshirt and socksโฆ in Julyโฆ during a heat wave.
5. I was so sad to hear that the dog in the Bushโs baked beans commercials diedโฆ I always adored that beautiful red Golden :(

6. Speaking of Goldens, did you see the story about the one bitten by the rattlesnake? Such a sweet boy, Iโm so glad he was okay!
7. Which reminds me, a couple of weeks ago, my mom was having her carpets professionally cleaned when the guy came down to tell her there was a snake IN HER BEDROOM. She is absolutely, positively deathly afraid of snakes, so this was basically her worst nightmare. He was nice enough to remove the snake, and after a few days and getting the house checked out to make sure it was a freak accident (likely it came in with the guyโs equipment), she was breathing easier. But, EW.
8. Do you use Trello? I just signed up for an account because I needed something to help me organize more โbig pictureโ projects than my little notebook. Scribbles get lost between pages and I never have everything in one spot. If you use it, Iโd love to hear how you use it to organize! Iโm planning to watch some tutorials to get started.
9. Love, love, love this >> What if hustling isnโt the goal?
10. TGIF! Have a wonderful weekend!

Always enjoy your โFriday Thingsโ post! Isabelle is aborable! ย The time does past quickly. Enjoyed the story about your Mom and a snake in her bedroom! I can imagine her reaction! I hate snakes also. We found a 4 ft garter snake in our bedroom. Our bedroom is 30 ft from any door. So the only way it could have gotten there was we figured our dog carried it in from the yard and put it in his crate in our bedroom. He seemed very happy when my husband foound it. Dogs certianly add interest to our lives. Hopeful your Mom is able to sleep peaceful!ย
Oh, I so relate to power outages! We have had some weeks -long ones here in West Virginia, some in winterโs deep cold, some in summerโs intolerable heat. I recommend you find some battery-operated fans with enough wind to really help (I got some from Lehmanโs Hardware in Kidron, Ohio) and keep good batteries in stock for them.
Your kids are precious and growing so fast! You are so blessed! Thank you for keeping in touch with your readers as you choose to.
Isabelle is soo cute and as you say, growing fast.
I canโt imagine the A/C going out in an apartment in NY. Luckily you able
to have it on even if it was cold. I am not good with hot weather. I live outside Los Angeles, CA, and today it is 112 degrees. I donโt think it has ever been this hot. Love the picture Judith and Duke watching fireworks. Your poor Mom having a snake in her bedroom. I am soo afraid of snakes, I would not sleep in the room for awhile. So enjoy your blogs and hearing about you and the family.
Sweet babies!
Well, it seems like you had ย an eventful mid-week for sure.I can only imagine how difficult it would be with three little ones and no air conditioningโฆugh!!
I too read the story of the Bushโs Baked Bean goldenโฆso sad. Now when see the commercial, I appreciate him all the more.ย
It looks like Judith was very into the fireworks in your backyardโฆshe is so alert and โat attentionโ as comapred to Duke who looks unimpressed!
Isabelle seems to change so much with each posted pictureโฆshe is such a sweetie.
I hope yopur weekend is cooler and restful.
I cannot believe Isabelle is already 3 months old! But one thing I do knowโฆshe looks like her big bro! ๐ Beautiful!!! Love all the pictures! Cute and adorableโฆall of them! Not enough words to describe my full heart! ๐
OMG on the snake!!! I would have died.
Um is your Mom okay? Is she able to sleep in that room? That is a worst nightmare scenario and I canโt imagine, I would have to move as well, I get freaked out by spiders big and small so I feel your Moms pain lol. Luckily living in Los Angeles we donโt have to worry about snakes, just sneaky city Raccoons or Possums every now and then, ha!
Hi Jillian, She is, although she did sleep at my sisterโs for a few nights, and then she had a snake guy (herpatologist?) come to the house and he looked through every inch to make sure there were no others, examined the outside for any small holes that could be breached, and then put down a snake repellant around the outside. Then she was okay enough to sleep there again, but I really, really thought that she might not stay there again!
Sweet, sweet little girlโ just adorable!!! ย Thank you for sharing. And thanks for the link about letting go of the hustleโฆ Love that!
The same advice from our AC repair man when it went out. He got it started but we couldnโt let it go off because it didnโt have enough kick in the motor to turn over. We were cold too but better under the covers than sweating!
#7 โ OMG! I would have to move!! haha
How neat that your dogs will watch fireworks! Mine are practically bald with all the stress shedding theyโve done.
And sooo glad your AC is up and running! I do awful in this heat but Iโd feel worse for the kids and dogs if mine went out.
I was recently introduced to Trello through another book blog I started writing for and absolutely love it! Itโs a great way for us to communicate with each other and keep track of our ideas and posts. I actually started using it for my own book blog a month ago too! Itโs the first time Iโve used an organizational tool for myself and Iโm finding it surprisingly useful (particularly the calendar).
Weโre in the final day of this heat wave too. ย I just saw an ode to Willis Carrier, the inventor of air conditioning, the other day. ย 100 years ago, many people would die in heat waves like this! ย Our a/c went out with terrible clunks during a heat wave 2 summers ago and wasnโt going to be revived. ย We all had to sleep on air mattressesย in our basement and use a lot of fans โ pretty comfortable in our half finished basement room โ for over a week while we got estimates and scheduled the new unitโs installation. ย Soโฆ if yours is approaching anywhere near 15 years or so, you may want to look at a new unit. ย Heat like this will overload the older a/cโs that are running almost constantly and the newer units are easier on our poor climate.
