Friday Things
1. Isabelle turned two months old this week! She had a great checkup, has been smiling huge, open-mouthed smiles, and we are just loving life with her. The boys still absolutely adore her, canโt wait to see her in the morning, love when she wakes up from a nap, want to give her kisses all the time. Joseph especially loves talking to her and encouraging her during tummy time :)
2. Iโm trying to get the boys outside a TON every single day now that itโs nice out, before it gets to be an inferno outside and I want to hibernate in my air conditioning. This week we had some crazy cool weather, so they actually had to put their jackets on!
3. Do you make a summer bucket list? I never have, but Iโm super inspired by the one Maria made with her boysโฆ Totally going to make a list myself now!
4. What are your best tips for picking out a great watermelon? The only thing I go by is a big yellow spot, but my watermelon selections have been seriously hit or miss so far this year. Tell me your secrets!

8. We used to eat angel food cake with strawberries and Cool Whip almost every single Sunday at my grandmaโs during the summer. Absolutely dying over how perfect this homemade angel food cake looks!
9. Update: I watched The Americans finale! I donโt want to throw out any spoilers, but ughhhhhh I just didnโt totally love it, I felt like there were so many loose ends. AND I sort of thought this could have been the next to the last episode, I just wanted more! What did you think? Is it just me? I still LOVED that show so much!

Hearing Phil Collins sing that gives me the chills, I loved it.
ย ย We grew melons when I was a child and I learned quite a bit. When choosing a watermelon, I always look for the yellow spot as you mentioned, as well as one that feels heavy for its size and has a dull appearance rather ย than glossy.
ย ย Americansโฆ..yep, we felt the same๐ ย We thought they got it right, up until that last episode! I definitely felt like there could have been another to follow and felt cheated in a way. Definitely a lot of questions unanswered in the end ย ยฏ\_(ใ)_/ยฏ.ย
I felt the same way about The Americans. Just kinda meh.ย
About the Watermelon : knock on it with your knuckles and pick the one that sounds more hollow :) always works for us :)
For watermelons โ I look for ones that :
1) feel very heavy, ย 2) have a yellow spot, ย 3) feel heavier than youโd expect 4) are very hard, and have virtually no give when you press the rind near the ends

I usually just try to pick the ugliest watermelon. But yes there are things to look for.ย
1. Yellow flat bottom- means watermelon was ripened in the vine.ย
2. Scarring- can look like scratches. This is the sugar escaping. Itโs usually very dark almost black in color. But yah itโs usually the ugly not quite round one. Hope that helps.ย
Oh my gosh, Isabelleโs litte grin is priceless. I can see Dominic in her face for sure. How wonderful is it that she has two loving older brothers. It will serve her well as she grows.
Have you seen the video on the Internet of the toddler assisted in her ย nighttime bedroon escape by her two furry siblings? I saw it o GMA the other day and it was hysterical. The parents could not figure out how their toddler was getting out of her bedroom and wandering the halls at night โฆuntil they watched the baby cam.
Their two Goldens were opening the doorโฆone of them knows how to work the doorlatchโฆ and โencouraging โ her to get out of her bed and leave the room. It is too funny.ย

I missed Fallon last night . . . ย watched the hockey game . . . . which by the way, Iโve never watched a more intense game of hockey. ย WOW!! ย โIn The Airโ is probably my favorite Phil Collins song, and that was SO good. ย There is nothing like the drum fill in this song. ย
Have you ever heard of picking out a watermelon that is โheavy for its sizeโ? ย I try to look for a heavy watermelon first and sometimes it has the deep yellow ground spot, and sometimes it doesnโt. ย Iโve had 2 watermelons so far this summer, and both have been so sweet, juicy, flavorful, and so freshly fragrant. ย
And Iโll give a plug for your pickle recipe. ย They are so easy to make and really delicious. ย And they keep for nice amount of time in the frig. ย
