Friday Things

1. Watching these two play together has been an absolute dream lately; they enjoy each other so much and I am so grateful they have one another. Joseph woke up sick on Wednesday morning and was pretty miserable most of the day except for when he was playing with Dominic โ his little brother can make him giggle and belly laugh like no one else. (When I snapped the picture above, Dominic was repeatedly trying to climb on top of Joseph and kiss his face.)
2. Joseph still talks about how much he loves school and I think he may have picked up on his teacher reading books to the classโฆ this week he started taking a book off the shelf, sitting on the floor and โreadingโ to Dominic. Heโll turn a page, then turn the book around and hold it open, out the side (JUST LIKE A TEACHER!), and say, โDom, look!โ and then heโll proceed to tell him everything thatโs on the page. Turn the page, repeat until the end, then he says, โokay, all done!โ I HAVE to sneak a video next time! The first time he did it, I was totally floored!
3. Loving this post >> stop torturing shy kids. Joseph is incredibly shy around strangers and new people until he warms up to them, so it was a great read for me.
4. I am doing a massive hallelujah dance now that Instagram FINALLY has nested comments and replies. Seriously, what took so long?! SO much easier to follow conversations and interact now!
5. The new iPhones were announced this week! Iโve been waiting and waiting since Iโm still hanging out with my original 6 Plus (from THREE years ago, an infinity in technology time) and canโt wait to upgrade! Are you thinking 8, 8 Plus, or the x? I still havenโt decided yet.

6. How do you cut your round cakes? I always do wedges, but now I might try this trick.
7. Iโm thinking that this garbage bread would be perfect for football watching this weekend. Have you made it yet?
8. My new store-bought sweet obsession >> Ritter Sport Milk Chocolate with Butter Biscuit. They have all kinds of other varieties with dark chocolate, hazelnuts, marzipan, etc. No thank you to everything else. That milk chocolate is a dream and that butter biscuit? SO GOOD. They donโt always have that version at the store or Target, so if I do see it, I pick up a couple ;-)
9. We finally started watching Doc Martin this week and are really enjoying it. It delivers some great comic relief and isnโt at all heavy, unlike all of the murder mysteries and crime dramas weโve been watching!
10. TGIF! I hope you have a cozy September weekend!

Iโm so glad you tried Doc Martin! The only bummer is that they only make a season every few years, so you will be dying for more when you get to the last season. Iโm hoping they are going to give us more!
That is my absolute favorite candy! I donโt know if you have a Trader Joeโs in your area but that is where I have found it for the cheapest at $2 a bar. So definitely check them out and they have a couple other varieties at Trader Joeโs too but I canโt stray from my favorite.
I just love the pictures of Joseph and Dominic playing together โ they make me smile! My youngest sister was reading 2nd grade level books by the time she entered Kindergarten because we โolderโ children took turns reading to and teaching her how to read. Will have to look for the sport biscuit โ sounds good. Have a good weekend!
Thatโs amazing! Itโs astounding what siblings can each other all on their own!
Garbage bread is sooooo good!! made it for a football sunday and a girls weekend away, perfect!!!
So great to know, thank you!
Iโve seen wedding cakes cut like that. As for Josephโs โreading styleโ, encourage him to read to his brother. Last week my 3 1/2 yo. great nephewโs preschool teacher told his parents that he was reading signs at school. So his mother typed sentences like โMy favorite color is orangeโ on her laptop. He read them perfectly. Wow โ who knew?
We definitely encourage it, I just couldnโt believe he started doing it on his own, so precious!
I so enjoy your stories about the boys. Their precious and sounds like their going to be the best of buddiesโฆ
I can just picture Joseph reading Dominic that book. AHHHH How sweet!
I see you really get it about savoring each moment when they are smallโฆthey grow up way too fast.
Duke looks so comfortableโฆ.such a beautiful dog!
Thank you Char! They enjoy each other so much and it makes me so, so happy. I try to make the most of each day, for sure!
I am an avid reader of your website and love hearing what your boys and Duke are up to. ย So happy to hear that Joseph is loving school. ย Has Duke started going to his doggie playgroup yet? ย Please tell us all about his experiences there and post some pics if possible. Thanks!
Hi Jana, Thank you! Duke didnโt go yet โ there was a 10 day waiting period after his bordetella shot (they require them every 6 months vs yearly), which took us to this week, and with everyone getting sick, he hasnโt gone yet. Hopefully next week!
Michelle,
The trick of cutting round cakes (& square) in concentric circles or squares ย is something Iโve done for years. ย So much easier especially for larger cakes. ย And, itโs also a great conversation starter. ย People are always amazed when they see me doing it.
P.S. always enjoy your site and love seeing your little boys. Beautiful.
Thank you Rosalie!
Quite simplyโฆI LOVE your blog! I was born and grew up in Pgh, so love that about youโฆ.also love all of the links you post, and I never miss a Friday post for pics of the dogs and kidsโฆall are adorable. Thx for all of the work you doโฆ.I know it takes time and I appreciate it.
Aww thank you so much for the kind words, Deb! xo
If you can ever find it, try Ritter Mint Sports bar. Itโs in a green packaging. If you like York peppermint patties, this is utter heaven. Donโt know why theyโre not more prevalent here. When we were living in Europe we could always get them.ย
