Friday Things

1. Joseph had another oral challenge at the allergist this week andโฆ HE PASSED! This one was for walnuts, as weโre working our way through the tree nuts. He had previously passed almonds, and next up in July will be pecans. These tests are so long and stressful, but each one he passes is a massive sigh of relief. He can enjoy nut rolls at Christmas now that walnut is crossed off the list!
Heโs also been pretty obsessed with hockey since we were watching a lot of here over the last few weeks, so my husband got him a little hockey set for in the basement and that is all he ever wants to do. He wakes up asking to go play hockey, after breakfast, after/before ANYTHING, he wants to go play hockey. Love!
2. Doing laundry used to be a simple little chore for me, but now getting laundry done, folded and put away within 24 hours seriously seems like a monumental accomplishment. I get absurdly proud of myself if I can do it.
3. On the subject taking care of household stuff, the folks at MacGill sent me one of their first aid kits, which was great since we actually did not have one. This is seriously THE BEST first aid kit Iโve ever seen โ everything and anything you can think of is in there! We are now prepared for skinned knees, bee stings, and whatever else I hope NEVER happens, ha!
4. There are new emojis coming! Iโm looking at you, soft pretzel.
5. Is it just me, or has the Pinterest Explore page turned into total junk? I feel like every other pin is some click-bait spammy type of thing for weight loss. If the old Pinterest could come back, that would be fantastic.

6. Speaking of Pinterest, I found a graphic on morning mindfulness habits, and they sound great, but seriously whoever dreamed this up either a) does not have children, or b) gets up at 3:30am to get it all in before their kids get up. I mean, shower meditation? Coffee ritual? Eat breakfast mindfully? Haโฆ Haโฆ Hahahahahaha.
7. I just found that they actually make ice cream sandwich molds! Crazy! (If youโre not afraid of a little more work, I actually have a recipe from awhile back for old-fashioned ice cream sandwiches and theyโre delicious!)
8. While weโre on the subject of ice cream, Iโm dying for a soft serve ice cream cone โ chocolate/vanilla twist with chocolate sprinkles, please! We havenโt gone to a soft serve place since Joseph was a baby because itโs one of the places thatโs pretty much off-limits with his peanut allergy. Womp womp. I hope thereโs a day sometime in the future when he can sit outside in the summer sun licking an ice cream cone.
9. I procrastinated yesterday and got all of the 2017-18 NHL schedule plugged into my Google calendar, because after the boys and work, I live and breathe hockey season. Iโm ready to start all over again!
10. TGIF! While Joseph and I were hanging out at the allergist, Duke and Dominic were patrolling the neighborhood (they both took their job VERY seriously, ha!).

lovely baby
Hi! I love the yellow paint color on the wall behind the little hockey netโฆif you do not mind me asking, what is the color name and brand? Thanks for your blog & recipes!
Hi Vicki! Itโs Sherwin Williams Cork Wedge, although in person itโs more beige, less yellow than the picture indicates.
Love keeping up with your sweet family. Thanks for the smiles. I also totally agree on your Pinterest observation. ย Too much junk. Miss the earlier days when your could get what you needed, without all the extra stuff. Andโฆas for the morning mindfulness habitsโฆgee whiz! ย I remember when you would just wake up, smell the coffee, pour a cuppa, and look out the window and give thanks for a new day. ย Some advice is really not. ย Plus, if you can get that laundry done in 24 hours โ washed to folded, you are a champ. Give your self a pat on the back. Go Steelers and Pens.
I had one of those little hockey nets for my grandson. First it was used in the basement then in the driveway with friends in the neighborhood. They had so much fun. We got another net and the sticks got bigger along with the kids. My son had old sticks he cut down. Itโs a great toy.ย
Sheesh. ย Iโm a single retired person and I couldnโt see myself doing all the โmorning ritualโ ย things. ย Iโm sure a few would suffice but I object to being told how to live my life while realising I donโt have to do what Iโm told! ย Iโm with you on Pinterest, I like seeing who has put the pin up there. ย As always those kids and Duke are so adorable.
100% agree with you on bringing the old Pinterest back! Argh. And on the morning mindfulness, I donโt even have kids, but yeah, no way could I do any of that without getting up at 3 a.m. and still make it to work on time. Sounds lovely though :)
I looked up the first aid kit. At first I thought the glucose packet was some beef jerky. ahahaha :)
Yeah Iโm not digginโ the new Pinterest. The thing that bothered me was that you canโt see the source of the recipe, only the picture. I like seeing the bloggerโs name right there with the recipe. Hopefully they will fix it.ย
The boys look great! Itโs too early to think of hockey for meโฆlolโฆanytime I get any laundry done I consider it an accomplishment! Have a great weekend.
Can you tell me about the device around Dukeโs muzzle? ย Iโve been seeing these and wonder about their purpose? ย After a scary experience, I have some residual fear of strange dogs and have wondered since they look a little like a muzzle, but not substantial. Thanks.ย
Also, so glad you have one less food concern at your house!
They are called โgentle leadersโ with the purpose of preventing dogs from pulling the leash (if the dog pulls then their head goes down which they donโt like so they learn not to do it). In my view, this doesnโt serve as a muzzle function.
Hi Robby, Itโs called a Gentle Leader, itโs actually not a muzzle at all (Duke can still drink water and take treats while wearing it)โฆ the purpose is to be able to have more control over them when walking. For dogs that tend to pull or get easily excited when they see people or other dogs, trying to correct them with a leash attached to their collar is difficult; with the gentle leader, just a couple easy tugs gets him to slow down or redirect his attention. We had a couple different trainers recommend them, and they are fantastic (we used one with Einstein as well).
We use a Gentle Leader for our dog too. Itโs truly the best invention. We use it on all walks and even in the house sometimes when we have guests. Our sweet dog tends to get a little too excited around people and other dogs so this helps calm her and listen a little better. Itโs not restrictive at all.ย
Hi Michelle,
Do you know the brand of the hockey set your husband purchased? I have a toddler that would love that, especially with the light!
Hi Nicole! This is the set: http://amzn.to/2rL9z8B
Thank you so much!
First of, I love your Friday list!
Second, I have downloaded the โmorning mindfulness habits,โ lastly, Joseph, Duke and Dominic are so cute!
McDonalds has soft serve cones that arenโt exposed to peanuts. My son is also allergic to peanutsโ and that is one place weโve found where he can get an ice cream cone without a reaction. Luckily my guy outgrew the tree nut allergies and only has peanuts to avoid!ย
Thanks for the awesome pictures of your guys!ย
Oh thatโs great to know, thanks for sharing!
