Friday Things
1. Joseph was sports fan extraordinaire on Saturday! I donโt know that Iโve mentioned it, and while most people/websites say itโs early to be able to tell, weโre 98% certain that Joseph is left-handed. Weโve thought so since he started grabbing at toys, as he always did so with his left hand first. Now that heโs actually using more fine motor skills (like dropping shapes in a shape sorter, building with blocks, etc.) itโs definitely obvious that he favors his left hand. Heโll pick things up with his right, but transfers then to his left to turn them and place them wherever they need to be.ย He hasnโt started using utensils yet, so weโll see what he does with them!
2. Are you a Seinfeld fan? I loved it when it was originally on, but my husband and I often watch reruns in the evening and on the weekends, and I find it SO much funnier now than I did when I was younger.
3.ย If youโre in theย Pittsburgh area, there is a local family who suffered a devastating fire and lost everything (including their dog) and are in need of some essentialsโฆ I donโt know them, but felt so sad when I readย about it. Stars must have aligned because I dragged my feet about dropping off everything I had purged from my closet and the bags haveย been sitting in there, so I went back through and pulled out everything that would fit the older girls. I have a couple of bags of clothes to drop off for them.
4.ย Speaking of the massive closet purge, I finally have almost everything that is hanging rearranged according to the Konmari method, and now I have to tackle the folding! Is this (the purging, organizing, folding, etc.) something you would be interested to see in a post?
5.ย Iโm loving this painted fireplace makeoverโฆ such a huge difference and so easy!

9. Round 2 of our hockey playoffs start tonight! So excited, but this pregnant lady really wishes that the games earlier thanย 8pm, oof!

I know what you mean about rooting for The Americans. Itโs just like rooting for Walter White on Breaking Bad. I got my husband hooked on that show but canโt watch with him because he gives running commentary all the way through it? Also, my son started using his left hand a lot when he was Josephโs age. The only other lefty on both sides of the family is my dad. When he was in school, his teachers tried to force him to use his right hand!
Would love a KonMari post. I feel there havenโt been any good comedies for a very long time. I never got into Seinfeld. My mom told me I did things with my left hand as a child but in those days (1950s) they tried to change you to being right-handed so I am that now. I always wonder if I would have been a lefty if โleftโ to my own devices ?!
Please write a post on your organizing! I am feeling so overwhelmed right now by all of the closets and clutter in our house, and need some inspiration. Itโs amazing what you accumulate after a 2nd baby! Congrats, by the way ?
My dad said when my now 9 yr old daughter was just a toddler that she would be a lefty. He died when she was 2 but he was correct! She does everything left handed! I can hardly use my left hand so it still baffles me when she tries something new and its always her left hand! Your boy is so cute but as a flyers fan, I just canโt like his shirt! ? Love Kon Mari too!
Yes, Iโd like a Konmari post, I havenโt read the book yet but it โs on my list. The pics of Joseph are adorable as usual โ I love the one of him with Duke and Einstein โ so cute. The Blues are playing the Dallas Stars tonight for the start of their playoff portion and Iโm excited and scared at the same time..lolโฆI would love to see tater-tot nachos of you decide to do them.
Taco Bell used to offer breakfast burritos with tater tots in them โ scrambled eggs, cheese & some sausage if I remember correctly. They were delicious.

I totally want a post on Konmari Method! I am reading the book and have questions! Where are you keeping all the stuff while sorting it? Emptying my entire closet and sorting thru it seems monumental to me. Worried that I wonโt have it all in order when my housekeeper comes!!! Yes, that is correctโฆI fear even if I start the day she cleans I wonโt have it done by her next visit 2 weeks later. Thinking that maybe (although she says not to) I have to do a first pass and discard the obvious stuff. Gotta remember to take a โbeforeโ picture too!

I veered a little bit from her method because I knew it would take me awhile to go through everything with a โhelpfulโ toddler :) So I didnโt throw all of my clothes into a pile at onceโฆ I went in sections โ t-shirts/sleepwear, sweaters, jeans, long sleeves, short sleeves, tanks, etc. I did one group at a time and it made it much more manageable for me!
My husband and I are HUGE Seinfeld fans. Weโd never seen it until recently, and now weโve made it almost through season 4 (watching an episode every day). That show is hilarious! I never got it as a kid, but now Iโm in my mid-twenties and that show has me on the floor laughing.
Weโve always been big Larry David fans, too. Have you seen Curb Your Enthusiasm?
Larry David is kind of my hero or spirit animal, or whateverโฆ LOVE Curb Your Enthusiasm! I hope they film more seasons!
I havenโt made tater tot nachos but I just posted a recipe for Breakfast Nachos with waffled hashbrown chips, they are so good! I immediately thought breakfast toppings would be the best when thinking about my base of potato. They were delicious!
I have to confess something. A couple of weeks ago I started watching The Americans. While I really enjoyed the show, I had a super weird dream one night and I woke up thinking Iโd heard a car alarm (maybe that was in the dream). It took me several minutes to calm down and stop thinking there was someone skulking around outside of my house or coming up the stairs. Oy! Maybe Iโm just not in the right season to watch a suspense-filled show like that :)
PS โ My mom and niece are both lefties and would say that lefties are the right way to be :)
Oh my gosh, a couple of years ago, we were catching up on our DVR before bed and watching an episode of Homeland, followed by an episode of Boardwalk Empire. I had horrible nightmares, and I never have nightmares! I need a buffer now after crazy intense shows and before bed ;-)

Oh my gosh, I know! And exhausting, all of these 8pm starts!
All four of my kids have favored their left hands from a young age but as they have entered pre-k they began writing with their right. Our oldest would actually write with both hands for the first few weeks of pre-k. He still does a lot of things left handed including playing on the tablet, throwing, etc (his teacher never pressured him to write right either. Our younger two are only 3 and 12 months so there could still be a lefty in the family although unlikely since my husband and I are rightys.
I taught kindergarten for a number of years and often had students coming in without a dominant handโฆa problem when tring to do paper/pencil tasks. The OT used a very simple exercise to determine dominant hand. Take a piece of copy paper and roll it, from the long side, into a tube. With the child standing, offer the tube straight on to the child at the belly button level. The hand the child uses to grab the tube is the dominant hand.
You mentioned that Joseph is transferring toys from right to leftโฆindicating he has developed the ability to โcross the midlineโโฆ a very important developmental milestone. The left and right brain hemispheres communicate across a mass of tissue called the corpus callosum. Because each hemisphere carries out different tasks, it is important for each hemisphere to communicate with the other across the corpus callosum in order to coordinate learning and movement. On a physical level, when your child spontaneously crosses the midline with the dominant hand, then the dominant hand is going to get the practice that it needs to develop good fine motor skills. There is plenty of information online for activities to do with children to encourage and reinforce midline crossing. Yeah for Josephโฆhe seems to know which hand he is supposed to use.
I also could tell from a very young age that my daughter would be left-handed. She is 6 now and writes lefty. I think moms can tell! I would also be interested in reading about the clothes purge as I desperately need to purge not just my closet but also my kiddos closets! Love your blog!
The tiny little bar right by my house had tater totchos I get them once a year on my birthday! They deep fry tater tots the put on either taco meat or bbq meat and then the liquid cheese, sour cream, bacon bits, and shred cheese. Then you get the add ons. Olives, green onion, guac, salsa. Again a once a year splurge and it takes me 3 tries to finish it!
Walnut Grill serves Tater Tot Nachos. We tried them a few weeks ago and they were delicious! Our first grandson is also a southpaw. Like Joseph, he seemed to favor his left hand when he was a toddler but it became obvious when he began to feed himself and use crayons. He has just begun playing soccer and so far, seems to be right footed. Stay tuned!
Tatar Tot Nachos are so awesome!! I live in Atlanta and we have a restaurant called the Vortex. They top their tater tot nachos the same way they do regular nachos. I copied this from their menu:

I am trying to get in to the Americans (on Amazon prime), and I want to like it, but the first couple episodes havenโt completely sucked me inโฆ So youโre saying I should stick with it?
Hi Beth, We started watching it when it first started, so itโs been a long time since I saw the first couple of episodes. I donโt really remember if they were slow moving or not. My mom tried watching it, but she said she just couldnโt get into it, but we really, really like it. Iโd stick through the first season and see what you think then!

Our son is also left handed and like your little guy, started grabbing things very early on with his left hand. Everything I read said you couldnโt be certain till the child is three, but I was quite sure well before then. And now heโs nearly six and very much left handed and footed. :) And many congratulations on your happy news! :)
What a cute pic of Joseph with Einstein and Duke! I love those sunny photos. I totally know what you mean about Seinfeld! I was a bit younger when it was originally on in the โ90s, but Iโd watch a bit when my older siblings were watching (it didnโt catch my attention until now). I just LOVE it now. I stream it on Hulu (commercial-free, of course ;)) and I canโt get enough, I binge watch it when I have free time. Iโve started season 7 which opens with Georgeโs engagement and it is my favorite so far. I follow a lot of Jerry Seinfeld fan IG accounts just to get my daily dose of their one-liners. I donโt think thereโs a sitcom today that I can compare it with, so so funny!
My husband and I constantly talk about how there are no good sitcoms on anymore! The last one that really mad me belly laugh was The Office.
I am also left hand and I think Joseph and I would get on pretty well :-)
