Friday Things

1. Joseph is 13 months old today! He has beenย wowing us every single day. In the last couple of weeks, he has seemed to pick up on a lot of words/phrases and general household habits. In the morning, when heโs ready for breakfast, he walks over to his highchair and pats the seat and goes โmmm mmmโ. If one of us tells him his diaper needs to be changed, he gets up and walks over to the changing table we have in our living room and puts his hands up. Just in the last two days, heโs been playing on the floor and itโs been around his nap time; Iโll see him yawn or rub his eyes and I tell him I think itโs time for his nap, and he gets up and walks to the bottom of the steps and pulls on the baby gate. Seriously unbelievable!
2.ย Iโve been making great progress on his rainbow blanket lately, and only have a handful more colored squares to finish. Then Iโll need to put the white borders on and connect them all together! Only two years in the making, no big deal ;-)
3.ย Iโm years away from needing this, but I loved this read on how to raise a happy teen.
4.ย I donโt do any crafts at all, but I fell in love with this craft room organization!
5.ย Iโm notoriously neurotic when it comes to kitchen germs, so I was just nodding my head in agreement with this list >> 19 Gross Kitchen Habits You Probably Definitely Have.
6. Totally craving these Garlic Parmesan Potato Wedges, probably because Iโve been craving a burger and fries for the last two weeks.
7.ย These home library shelves! Love! [via]

8.ย After I posted last week about purging my closet, a reader, Linda, emailed me and told me about Thred Up. Have you heard of it? Itโs an online consignment shop โ they send you a bag to fill, you send it back and they give you money for whatever they sell of yours! Iโm totally checking it out!
9. My aunt came across this picture on Facebook from a local newspaper:
The town my grandma lived in had a sewing club and the above photo was the original club together in the 1950โs โ my grandma is in the top row, second from the right (she didnโt make the reunion for the below photo). The article said they would get together and work on knitting, sewing or embroidery projects at each otherโs homes. I so love this. I told my husband I would have absolutely rocked at being a 1950โs housewifeโฆ I feel like itโs the era I was meant to live in.
10. TGIF! This sleepy head wishes you a wonderful weekend!

I am in LOVE with those bookshelves! How can I have my house rebuilt to include those???
Joseph is just so adorable! Love the bookshelves too โ the kitchen gross thing really grossed me outโฆlolโฆI have to admit that Iโm guilty of a couple of them but no more! I will be posting this on my refrigerator as a reminder!
For what itโs worth, I was not impressed with ThredUp at all. I tried it twice. The first time was with my sonโs clothes and I did okay. They didnโt pay great, but it wasnโt bad; good enough that I sent in some of my own things the next time. The second time was terrible. I sent in several pairs of nearly new Gap khakis and they paid me something ridiculous, like a dollar per pair. I was so upset I didnโt even collect the money! I vowed never to do it again. That was a few years ago, so I hope things have changed now and that youโll have a better experience if you try!
Hi, I never leave a comment, but I have to say those are beautiful women in those pictures!! You KNOW they had great recipes too!
I love seeing pictures of Joseph, I have a grandson Joey, just 4 mos older than Joseph. I love all of your recipes, and so does my sister, and now Joeyโs mom gets them too!
My kids are almost at the end of the teen years, so I teared up reading the article about teens. I agree, and mine have turned out pretty great so far! imho :) Love the pictures of your grandmaโs sewing club. I feel like that was the era I was meant for too! Have a great weekend!
I clicked on almost every one of those links this week. Great reading! I especially loved the one about raising teens. Iโm not a mom but as a paediatric nurse who works with adolescents, I related to a lot of it. Adolescents are just so much fun (when they arenโt being challenging!). That blanket is amazing and Iโm sure something Joseph will treasure for a very long time.
Those garlic potato wedges sound delish!

Can that little boy of yours get any cuter? Itโs neat that we have been able to watch him grow from week to week. I want to see videos!
And that picture of your Grandmotherโs sewing club is priceless! I know you treasure it.
I made the mistake of eating my lunch while looking at the gross kitchen stuff โ I had to stop and go back. Oh, lordy.
We are going to be building soon โ the craft room gave me a few more ideas! Iโm a crazy bead artist and I sew. We are going to have a computer/craft room/cat playroom (there will be cat climbing stuff up the wall and around the ceiling for them). Anyway, thanks for posting that!
Have a great weekend!
I just realized I say the same thing every Friday when I get your emailโฆ โletโs see how big Joseph is getting!โ Cutie!
In the mirror above the 1950โs photo you can see the reflection of a couple of other women and one is holding a child. I bet that child is about the age now that these women were then. How cool would that be to see yourself in a photo like that? I was a child in the 50โs but retained so much of that era in the way I run my home. Now Iโm looking forward to retiring and actually getting to be a 1950โs housewife. My husband canโt wait. :)
It is crazy watching my daughter learn and grow so fast. So amazing!
I totally agree with all those clean kitchen rules. I actually already do all of them properly. I donโt know whether to be proud of myself or really, really scared :/
I could not agree with you more on rockinโ the 50โs homemaker! I feel the same way. I soak up all the reruns of The Donna Reed Show, Leave it to Beaver, I Love Lucy (although that is a little different from those other 2 shows :) ). I love those pictures of the sewing club, specifically the top photo. I bet there was a lot of โgossipโ that went on in those circles though ;) But how much fun and bonding as well. And just look at how they dressed! Thatโs just one of the reasons I adore Lucy . . . her clothes! I donโt think I ever saw my grandma in pants. I credit my grandma with instilling the love of homemaking in me. Her home was always warm, welcoming and neat as a pin every day. I loved meals in her home, no matter how simple they were . . . even as a young child, a cup of tea and piece of toast with her homemade red currant jelly never tasted so good. Hereโs to reviving the 50โs homemaker :D Have a great weekend, Michelle!
Thatโs so funny, my grandma never wore pants either, only dresses. When she had a hip replacement the rehab center said she needed to wear pants during her therapy sessions, and she wasnโt very happy about it. Ha!
What wonderful photos of the sewing club ladies! Of course Einstein and Joseph are always so cute! I love all of your posts. Many thanks!
LOVE the library shelves. We have one wall in our family room done something like this, except we cabinets underneath. Iโm really liking the โto the floorโ look! The pic of your grandma is just priceless! Seeing the reunion photo I know I let out a โthat is so coolโ. I would also second what Debbie said above..really enjoy the photos. Have a GREAT weekend!!
Swap.com is another online consignment shop that works similar to Thred Up. I have purchased numerous items of clothing from Swap. Just another option as you purge your closet!!
Thanks for the tip!
love the library ideas โ wanted to check out Threads, but it makes you sign up just to check out the site
You donโt do any crafts at all! That rainbow blanket looks like some serious crafting to me!
Ahh I guess thatโs true! When I think of crafts, I think of sewing, embroidery, scrapbooking, washi tape, etc.
I absolutely love seeing just how much your little man has grown up. Thank you for always posting such warm pics of him and your doggies :)
Have a great day!!!
Debbie
The bookshelves are gorgeous! I could spend many hours browsing for something to read! Hard to fathom that Joseph is 13 months already!
