Dominic Update #1
Hello friends! I want to take a moment to thank you all SO much for the outpouring of love, prayers, and well wishes that you have sent to Dominic. Our family is overwhelmed and humbled by the love and kindness of this community. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
So many of you have reached out since I shared Dominic’s diagnosis a few weeks ago, asking how he was doing and how his first treatment went.

At the end of that week, he had a full-body scan, had a central line placed, and then began his first round of chemotherapy. This was the very first treatment he received…

In the days during the treatment, he ran some fevers off and on, which required an extra night’s stay at the hospital, and he lost his appetite for about a day and a half, but then it gradually came back.
He kept busy with trips to the playroom on his floor, small Lego kits, a Kiwi & Co box, a mini Lite Brite, his new Nintendo Switch, daily bingo on the hospital TV, and loved to end each day with the Paw Patrol movie.

He came home feeling well and didn’t miss a beat, running around and playing with Joseph and Isabelle, and enjoying some beautiful weather outside. We had a lovely Easter all together at home 🐰
However, that Sunday night, he began running a fever, which we knew after having a central line placed, meant an automatic trip to the ER and most likely a 2-3 day stay at the hospital, during which they run blood cultures to make sure there isn’t an infection. He was clear of an infection, but his counts were very low (he was considered “neutropenic”), so he had to stay until they had gotten up to a safe level. He was back home on Thursday and rolled right into the weekend running around and playing.
Aside from a couple of days of low appetite, he hasn’t been sick thus far. He did start to lose his hair last week, so my husband gave him a buzz cut. Afterward, he looked in the mirror and said, “I look spiffy!” Oh to have the confidence, resiliency, and heart of a child 💙
Next up is round two of chemotherapy, beginning later this week.

We’ve been savoring the days we get to spend with everyone at home together, and getting outside to enjoy the beautiful weather whenever we get the opportunity!

Michelle, thank you for updating us on Dominic’s progress. Children are so resilient and are beyond capable of taking everything in stride. As a mom l can’t imagine what this is doing to you. Don’t forget about your own mental health through all of this. Take deep breaths, bubble baths when you can & of course sneaking in some baking when you can, I personally, found to be therapeutic as well. Lastly, pray, pray pray. 🙏 🙏🙏Your little man and your family will remain in our prayers. Wishing you and your family peace. 💜
Thank you for updating us on Dominic, Joseph and Isabelle. I have been with you in heart from the day you shared Dominic’s diagnosis. Cancer has touched all of us in one way or another as it affects the whole family of the patient. It’s not a community anyone wants to be a part of, but it’s a community of support, love and healing thoughts. My prayers are with you all as well as sending positive energy to your sweet boy.
May God continue to bless you and your beautiful family! Here is a healing prayer you may enjoy.

Continued prayers for Dominic and your family. Thank you for sharing Dominic’s journey with all of us. You are a gift to us all.
You and your family have been on my mind and in my prayers. As a mother of four abs grandmother if seven I empathize and know how you feel. Try not to “catastrophize” as my children accused me of. Instead dwell on the positive and know with God all things are possible. Take a deep breath and know that everything will turn out right in the end.
How do I reach you privately? I have some info that might be helpful. My own child is sick too and I’d like to help. Sending hugs and lots of love to you all. It’s the most difficult challenge of your lives but you’ve got this!
Will keep praying for complete healing for Dominic. Also remembering all of your family in this scary experience.
Thank you for sharing Dominic’s journey. I am sure your other followers were wondering how he tolerated his first treatment, as I was. Children are blessedly resilient and endlessly optimistic and that is so comforting to see at a time like this. I am an oncology RN(retired) and I am a loyal follower of your site. My prayers continue for Dominic and all of you, when cancer strikes it is not just the patient who has it, it is their entire family. Your warrior is little, but mighty, like David! Here’s to slaying his Goliath!💪🙏
Hugs and excellent vibes to you and yours. I hope you feel loved and supported because you are!
Thank you for the update on Dominic and your other beautiful children as well. May his future health journey go as smoothly as possible and I will continue to keep all of you in my prayers.
