Coconut-Honey Doggy Cake [Happy 3rd Birthday, Duke!]
An easy coconut-honey doggy cake made with only a handful of ingredients and perfect for celebrating your pupโs birthday!
Today is Dukeโs 3rd birthday!!
I canโt believe this little furry nut has been with us for nearly three years already! Time flies when youโre having fun, right?! A week after we got back from our beach wedding, we picked him up. Our house wouldnโt be nearly the same without him, and Einstein would get a lot more uninterrupted nap time in, for sure ;-)
Weโre so excited to celebrate his special day today โ a lot of tug of war with Einstein, chasing tennis balls in the back yard, and a ton of extra affection (which he canโt get enough of). He and Einstein got to devour his birthday cake a day early! :)

If youโve been following along here for any length of time, you know that I like to whip up a new homemade dog treat (or cake!)ย for Einstein and Dukeโs birthday. Since Einstein has now blown out nine candles(!) thereโs a pretty good archive of doggy treats if youโre interested!
This time I churned out a really easy and simple four-ingredient coconut-honey cake for Duke. The โfrostingโ is simply plain yogurt; both he and Einstein gobbled it up in no time, so Iโm pretty sure it was a big hit :)
Iโm off to snuggle that big fur ball for the rest of the day! :)

Coconut-Honey Doggie Cake
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons refined coconut oil, melted
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 3 eggs
- 1ยพ cup (218.75 g) all-purpose flour
- Yogurt, for frosting
Instructionsย
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease two 7-ounce ramekins; set aside.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted coconut oil, honey and eggs. Stir in the flour until totally absorbed.
- Divide the batter between the two ramekins and baked until lightly browned and firm when pressed in the center, 15 to 20 minutes.
- Cool in the ramekins, then remove them and fill and frost with plain yogurt. Serve!

Added โ cup of water and 1 tsp baking powder. Replaced for gluten free all purpose flour. Baked in a 6 inch spring form pan for 25 minutes. Came out perfect this way.
The batter was not a batter to be poured. It was more like a dough. Did not turn out great for me at all. Double checked the recipe to see if maybe I forgot something or put too much flour but nope, it was all correct. Not sure where the recipe went wrong.

My dogs love this cake. Iโve made this several times for each of our dogs birthdays. Iโve always used almond flour. While the consistency is not loose like a regular batter, itโs not like cookie dough batter either. ย I do use a cookie dough scoop to help make uniform treats. I have also used muffin tins and ramekins if I want the โbirthday cakeโ size Iโve never had an issue with raw in the middle or hard as some posters have stated. ย I wonder if the all-purpose flour changes the consistency or if the oven temperature is correctโฆ an oven thermometer might help. ย This is a go-to for natural treats. You do need to freeze because they donโt last long on the counter.ย

Same problem as many of the other commenters โ it was a very thick dough, and there was still raw dough in the middle. Is it possible the flour measurement is off โ too much flour for the wet ingredients? I had about as much batter left over as I used in the ramekins.
I made this for my boyโs 6th birthday. The consistency was like dough. I baked as directed, until
the top was firm when pressed on. But when I cut into it, it was raw in the middle. Is it suppose to have a soft center? I still gave it to him and he loved it, but Iโd like to know if itโs suppose to be like this or if it didnโt cook long enough. I baked it for 15 mins and it seemed to be enough. Thanks!
Hi Bev, It definitely should be baked through in the middle and not raw.
I made this for my dogs 3rd birthday and I couldnโt even give it to him because it was still raw in the middle. I followed the recipe exactly and it still didnโt come out properly.

I thought it was going to turn out like a sponge cake but it came out hard as a rock.

Itโs my girl Winnies 5th birthday and wanted to make her her very own cake, so I decided to try the coconut honey cake.
I did use regular flour. The batter was sooooo thick and it did not even poor out.
I had to add water as it was just like pasteโฆI was wondering is that the consistancy its supposed to be?
Is the flour measurement correct at 1 3/4 cups?? I held back on about a 1/4 of flour.
Its baking now, hopefully it will be delish for my girl.
Also, Ive never used ramekins before, do you have to place them on a cookie sheet to bake or can they be placed directly on the oven rack??

As odd as this may sound, I was looking for a muffin recipe that my dog and I could both enjoy and came across your recipe! I did use oat flour but didnโt change any ingredient amounts. I made 7 muffins and we shared one with a little bit of yogurt. We both liked it ย :)
